ORION › Game requirements › EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair
EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair, by SANDLOT (Action), came out on Steam on July 18, 2016. Here are the official specs, and what they mean on the most common graphics cards.
Estimate per graphics card
For each card: the highest settings level that stays smooth, and the expected frame-rate range. This is a conservative estimate worked out from the publisher's recommended specs, not a measurement: your processor, drivers and game updates move it.

Without DLSS, FSR or frame generation: turning them on raises the frame rate noticeably when the game offers them.
Best settings
The setting ORION's “Recommended” profile would pick to play at 60 frames per second: the best-looking detail level that stays smooth, with upscaling when it lets you go one step up (DLSS on GeForce RTX, XeSS on Intel Arc, FSR on other cards). If EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair doesn't offer it, use the level from the previous table.
| Graphics card | 1080p | 1440p |
|---|---|---|
| GeForce RTX 5070 | Highover 300 fps | Highover 273 fps |
| GeForce RTX 4070 | Highover 300 fps | Highover 239 fps |
| Radeon RX 7800 XT | Highover 300 fps | Highover 260 fps |
| GeForce RTX 4060 Ti | Highover 287 fps | High186–256 fps |
| GeForce RTX 3070 | Highover 287 fps | High186–256 fps |
| Intel Arc B580 | Highover 246 fps | High159–219 fps |
| GeForce RTX 4060 | Highover 239 fps | High155–213 fps |
| Radeon RX 7600 | Highover 232 fps | High150–207 fps |
| GeForce RTX 3060 | High204–280 fps | High132–182 fps |
| Radeon RX 6600 | High190–261 fps | High123–169 fps |
| GeForce GTX 1660 Super | High131–181 fps | High85–117 fps |
At these levels, ORION keeps textures on high from 8 GB of video memory (they cost memory, hardly any frames), sets the frame cap on the target for steady pacing, turns off motion blur and film grain, and leaves vertical sync off. This is a conservative estimate, not a measurement: in ORION, the first measured session corrects the setting.

Where to buy
The official page first. In ORION, the Store tab compares prices across shops, with the official stores listed before key resellers.
On your PC
ORION is a free game launcher for Windows. It reads your graphics card, processor and screen, estimates every game in your library, then measures the real frame rate while you play and sets the game up with its "Recommended" profile. No account, no ads.
Questions
The publisher recommends: AMD Radeon HD 7970 / NVIDIA GeForce GTX 760 (3GB Model or higher). By our conservative estimate, high settings hold 60 frames per second at 1080p with a GeForce GTX 1060.
For 60 frames per second at 1080p, ORION's “Recommended” profile would pick High settings: over 239 frames per second according to our conservative estimate.
By our estimate, a GeForce RTX 3060 runs EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair at 1080p on high settings, between 204 and 280 frames per second.
By our estimate, a GeForce RTX 4060 runs EARTH DEFENSE FORCE 4.1 The Shadow of New Despair at 1080p on high settings, over 239 frames per second.
The publisher recommends 8 GB of RAM (minimum: 4 GB).
The official page asks for 8 GB of storage.
The publisher's recommended specs are the reference point (about 60 frames per second at 1080p on high settings, unless the publisher says otherwise). Each card's power is compared with the recommended card (the average when the publisher names several), then adjusted to the screen resolution. A low margin is kept, and less video memory than recommended drops one level.
